“…(a) major insight I have gained through the marriage seminar is that handling issues that are best left to the head of the household (husband) can make a wife lose her femininity. Of course, it makes perfect sense now that it has been pointed out to me, but I had never thought of it in that way before. I was raised in the age of the feminist movement and most of my life I had been taught, along with most of the girls I grew up with, that a woman doesn’t need a man; that I should make sure I have my own career so that I would not have to depend on a man; men should be expendable in a woman’s life; women need to be tough and make their own way in the world. The thought that a woman’s having to slay all her own dragons throughout her life might make her less feminine goes against everything our culture (and my mother) have taught me…but makes perfect sense. God intended for most women to have a protector and defender, her husband. Instead of convincing the world that she doesn’t need this man, that he is only there by her choice, a woman should be encouraging her husband to be the leader, and showing him that she has confidence in his ability to be the head of the household over her. …..I have read many books and articles about the feminist movement and how it has negatively impacted our nation, but this has really brought it home to me in a personal way, and has made me re-examine h ow I have thought about a lot of things.”

After she and I listened to this marriage course together, I can say that we have been having better conversations. We have become more appreciative of each other’s roles in this marriage. This course has helped us to define our roles a little better and she has been submitting herself with less stress and I have been leading more decisively since doing this course. My wife and I have made yet a little more progress in becoming one through this course.
